It was difficult to dress for Colorado in the heat. I traveled from a raging fire to beautiful Colorado, where it was 75 degrees during the day and 45 degrees at night. Fortunately, Nordstrom recently had an anniversary sale, so I bought a lot of fall basics, including trousers, cardigans, the coziest layering t-shirts, and accessories. Keep an eye out for posts about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale if you haven’t shopped there before. They are offering 40% off fall merchandise, and they will likely start selling summer merchandise in February or March. This year, cardigans and utility or military-style jackets are very popular. Make sure to stock up right away!

Going white water rafting was a part of my strategy to beat the heat. The water is really chilly and the rapids will be insane if you visit in May or June. Since we visited in August, the rapids were manageable but yet large enough for us to enjoy ourselves without worrying about our safety. Although not unbearably frigid, the water was nevertheless cool. We made use of Glenwood Adventure Company, a fantastic business I had investigated. They have a stellar safety record and are just 45 minutes from Beaver Creek. They even had their young boys, ages seven or eight, in one of the groups. They enjoyed every moment as we floated past them! The view was spectacular, and we had a great time. Three mountain sheep were seen clambering through the rocks near the end of our journey. When we finally hauled the boat ashore, they had a prepared lunch ready for us, including vegetarian and vegan options.

Of course hiking and white water rafting wasn’t enough so I threw in one more adventure! A razor ATV tour 13,000 feet up a mountain to an extinct volcano. This was by far the BEST activity we did. We drove to the 4 Eagle Ranch and met our guide who outfitted us with helmets, goggles and bandanas for our faces. We all wore workout clothes because it was a dusty and dirty ride. Our guide went over how to drive the ATV (easy), and the in’s and out’s of our trail. There were pot holes of mud, driving next to the side of a cliff, fields of wild flowers, clear blue skies and views of Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Vail.In order to travel quickly and enjoy a fun thrill ride, we were spaced apart so as not to collide with the person in front of us. They provided us with water, lemonade, and cookies as we approached the summit of the extinct volcano. We then took a different trail down the mountain to a lake that was a clear blue color. It was really lovely. Throughout our drive, I felt like I was chanting OOOOH AHHHH, OOOOH AHHHH. If you are in the vicinity, I would strongly suggest this excursion.

Below, you can see a tall gray triangle mountain. That is an extinct volcano!

This was Blue Lake. It was crystal clear and you could see all the way to the bottom!
I therefore strongly advise visiting Beaver Creek the next time you’re looking to get away from the summer heat or simply want an exciting adventure. You will be reminded of the splendor of our wonderful country by the vistas of Colorado in the summer. Stay at the Park Hyatt hotels, The Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch, or rent a condo. You won’t be let down either. Remember to take advantage of the Nordstrom Fall Anniversary Sale in July and August to purchase additional items for your fall outfit!
Thanks for stopping by!
