Full Coverage, Zero Feel: One/Size’s New Foundation Is Here

9

There’s a reason it’s called foundation: it provides the ideal groundwork for the rest of your makeup. However, in a world dominated by skin tints, tinted moisturizers, and light-coverage formulas, full-coverage foundations have been pushed aside in favor of barely-there formulas. Until now, that is. Patrick Starr’s One Size Beauty’s Turn Up The Base Full Beat Liquid Foundation revives the full beat look. This foundation offers great coverage and powerful staying power, and it works best with a night out and a statement smoky eye. We have all the exclusive details on the new launch, as well as honest evaluations from the Byrdie staff.

The Source of Inspiration

The reputation of full-coverage liquid foundations is not good. They remind me of thick, matte formulations and the “Instagram face” of 2018. Nowadays, people are hesitant to use full-coverage foundation for fear of looking cakey or of the product being too thick on their skin. However, the Full Beat Liquid Foundation offers a fresh take on glam beauty. It is dermatologist-tested, non-comedogenic, and oil-free. Additionally, the solution comes in 38 hues and is designed to embrace the skin comfortably throughout the day without blocking pores.

The Formula

Because the Turn Up The Base Full Beat Liquid Foundation is a “thixotropic” formula, which means it has a cream-to-fluid consistency, it changes from a thick cream to a lighter, easier-to-blend consistency when shaken before use. This allows you to get coverage without cake.

Lauryl lysine, an amino-acid powder that keeps the foundation from separating during the day, is one of the featured ingredients. Instead than utilizing silicone to create a blurring effect, it contains an alkane complex, a smoothing emollient obtained entirely from plants. Finally, rice silk powder provides a blurring and smoothing effect.

Of course, the foundation complements the brand’s popular Secure The Sweat and Oil Sucker Primers. It’s also introducing a new Turn Up The Base Infinity Sponge in an oloid shape for easier use. The manufacturer recommends using a dry sponge to pack on the coverage, while a damp sponge will result in a lighter base.

Our Reviews

Adelaide Giesey, editor

“I usually choose very light complexion products, including moisturizers with tints or textures similar to serums. Thus, testing this product was undoubtedly more glamorous than I usually do. This foundation felt weightless on my skin, despite the fact that it provides complete coverage. Finding the appropriate hue was my only challenge. I enjoyed how it stayed in place all day and blended out on my face, even though I had to mix two together in the end.

“Good news, full beat girlies: Tints and buildable formulas might be trending, but you have not been forgotten. One/Size’s latest offering is decidedly, unabashedly full coverage. It’s lighter weight than most of the comparable foundations I’ve tried, and you get full coverage with just a few drops. On me and my combo skin I’d say it’s more matte matte than soft matte, and I’ll likely reach for this one for days I’ll be photographed— it looks great in pics!”

“I’m glad I tried this even though I’m a little afraid of full-coverage foundation. because of how lovely this seems on the skin. It covers the majority of my redness and pimples while allowing my skin to show through, falling midway between medium and full coverage. It takes excellent pictures and has a very contemporary matte appearance that is airbrushed, blurred, and slightly luminous. I will definitely be grabbing for this one throughout the fall because it doesn’t feel heavy or cakey.
