‘Emily in Paris’ Season 5 Proves Polka Dots Are Here to Stay

15

It seems that one print simply takes over with every new season and its accompanying trend, appearing on everything from handbags to dresses to shoes. This autumn? I’m wagering on polka dots.

Dots are already showing up in almost all of my favorite stores, and they were even included in two of the most recent first looks of season five of Emily in Paris. Considering that Pinterest’s fall trend report shows that searches for the vintage pattern are significantly higher, I’m taking that as my cue that this is a print to buy early.

I’ve included links to seven of my faves below, including one of the same looks that Emily (also known as Lily Collins) wore.

1. Madewell Ruffled Dress

This minidress from Madewell looks like it might have the most flattering fit ever, so it’s the only polka-dot item I’m buying this fall. The flowy skirt keeps it very comfortable and laid-back, and the smocked bodice should ideally embrace your curves. Additionally, the cotton/viscose blend will inevitably breathe, allowing you to wear it in layers without becoming overheated.

2. Boden Lace Collar Blouse

The fit of Boden’s swimwear is so popular among my colleagues PureWow editors—I mean, how adorable do they look in the Mykonos and Santorini styles? But me? This button-down with lace details is waiting for me in my cart. In addition to its cute appearance, I adore that this one is machine-washable and composed of a soft cotton/modal blend, which means I won’t have to work hard to maintain it in good condition. The slim fit should also look elegant without being overly tight.

3. Maeve Brooklyn Pants

“These trousers are so cozy and adorable! I adore the sophisticated style, but they’re still really comfortable and simple. One Anthropologie reviewer said, “The fit is excellent,” and I must admit that I was immediately convinced. To give you a little more information, these stylish yet cozy bottoms are made of smooth, silky viscose and have an easy-to-use elastic waist (plus pockets!) for effortless dressing. Standard, tall, petite, and plus sizes are available, and for the sweetest one-and-done appearance, they may even be worn with a matching strapless top ($98).

4. DL1961 Hepburn Jeans

A few months ago, I finally got to try on a pair of DL1961 jeans, and they are quickly becoming one of my favorite pairs in my closet. Naturally, I was drawn to this polka-dot style with an ankle-length hem and wide legs. These jeans’ delicate, neutral dots mix well with almost anything—yes, even other prints like floral or plaid—and the nearly $60 bargain is too good to refuse.

5. Free People Laverne Set

Speaking of items that are too lovely to pass up, I’m in love with this Free People combo, which comes with both a cotton cardigan and a swishy polka-dot skirt that look like they belong together when strolling around the Jardin des Tuileries (especially when worn oh-so Parisian). Just so you know, reviews rave about how well the skirt fits, and I adore that it’s midi length, so it goes well with boots, sandals, or even sneakers—a particularly French style.

6. Zara Polka Dot Dress

With its classic shirtdress form, waist-cinching belt, and white-accented blue color, this polka-dot dress would also look perfectly at home on Paris’ most stylish streets. Although you can adjust the buttons and the fabric belt as you choose, the high slit underneath the buttons ensures a lean appearance. I’m rushing to get this one before it sells out, of course.

7. Moschino Polka Dot Shirt

Now for a look that has been spotted in Venice rather than Paris, as it is where we saw some of Emily’s initial appearances in season five of Paris. Emily was seen strolling with her new Italian partner while sporting this exact shirt tucked into matching slacks (which were $693, but are now only $517). Although they are expensive purchases, you can currently find both pieces of her ensemble on sale. Therefore, this is the perfect moment to pamper yourself.
